Who we are.
Storlie Construction is a family-owned aggregate and site work company on US Highway 2, between Bemidji and Cass Lake. We run our own pits, our own trucks, and our own heavy equipment. People call us for gravel, sand, and rock by the cubic yard, and for the work that usually comes with it: excavation, driveways, road building, clearing, demolition, and hauling.
Most of our customers are homeowners, cabin owners, builders, and local road crews. Some need one load of Class 5 for a driveway. Others need a crew and several machines for a full site. Both get the same treatment. Someone answers the phone, looks at the job, and gives a straight answer.
Rooted in the Northwoods.
Our home base is the Highway 2 yard in Hubbard County, in Leech Lake country. Additional Storlie pit locations, including operations toward Walker and Nevis, let us pull material closer to where it is headed. That matters up here. On a gravel order, freight can be a real share of the bill, and the miles between a pit and a lake lot are not always short.
Being local also means knowing the ground. Sandy lake lots. Pockets of heavy clay. Frost that heaves a driveway every spring and spring load limits on township roads. We work in this soil every season, and the people answering our phones know it as well as the operators do. We deliver across the region, from Bemidji and Cass Lake to Walker, Park Rapids, Blackduck, and the smaller towns in between.

Questions people ask before they order.
Most calls start with a question, not an order. These come up every week:
- How many yards of gravel do I need for my driveway?
- Should the driveway get Class 5 or crushed asphalt on top?
- What rock goes in a septic drainfield?
- Which sand should I use to raise a low spot or build a pad?
- Can the truck get down a narrow lake road?
- Can you dig the site and bring the material on the same job?
We would rather talk it through than sell you the wrong material. Everything is sold and quoted by the cubic yard, and the driveway page has a calculator to get you a starting number before you call.
Our own pits. Our own iron.
Because the material comes out of Storlie pits, we control what goes into it. Our screening plant sorts raw pit material into screened sand, screened clay, and the sized rock that becomes sewer rock and washed sand. Tandem dump trucks, wheel loaders, and excavators, including a long-reach machine for shoreline rip rap and technical demolition, are all company owned and maintained in our own shop.
That matters when a job depends on timing. The same company loads the truck, drives it, and runs the excavator on site, so there is no waiting on a second outfit to show up. You can see the equipment on our fleet page.
