GRAVEL AND ROCK FOR BIG WINNIE COUNTRY.

Storlie Construction delivery area near Bena, MN

Bena sits on the south shore of Lake Winnibigoshish, the lake most people around here just call Big Winnie. It is a resort and fishing town first, built around boat landings, guide services, and cabins that have stayed in the same families for generations. Our pit is up the highway in Cass Lake, and Bena is one of the closer stops on our regular delivery route.

MATERIAL FOR A BIG WINNIE SHORELINE.

Big Winnie is a large, open lake, and it treats a shoreline differently than a small pond does. Wave action and spring ice push hard against the bank, which is why so many properties here need rip rap sized to the MnDOT Spec 3601 classes rather than whatever rock happens to be on hand. We will help you pick the right class for your stretch of shore and point you to the DNR permit process before any rock goes in the water. Away from the water, Class 5 gravel (MnDOT Spec 3138) is what most cabin driveways and parking pads are built on, since it compacts tight and sheds rain instead of holding it. Low, sandy yards near the lake often call for fill sand or septic sand, and resorts refreshing their grounds usually order screened black dirt or topsoil once the heavy work is done.

SITE WORK FOR CABINS AND RESORTS.

Most of the site work we do around Bena is smaller and more particular than a subdivision job. We grade new cabin pads, cut in boat access roads, and reset culverts that washed out during spring runoff. Resort owners call us to regrade parking areas and to build up low spots that hold water once the ice goes out. When an old boathouse, fish house, or storage shed needs to come down before something new goes up, we handle the demolition and haul the debris out ourselves.

GETTING MATERIAL OUT TO BENA.

Our yard sits at 31923 US Highway 2 in Cass Lake, and the run down to Bena stays on Highway 2 the whole way, heading southeast. Bena falls well inside the roughly 50-mile radius we deliver within regularly, so a tandem load, somewhere around 15 tons, is routine for us rather than a special trip. One thing worth planning around: spring load restrictions can limit truck weights on some township and county roads for a few weeks each year. We will work with you around those dates instead of promising around them.

QUESTIONS FROM THE BENA DOCK.

Can you place rip rap along my shoreline on Big Winnie? Yes. We size the rock to whatever class your stretch of shoreline calls for and will point you toward the DNR permit process before scheduling, since shoreline work on Winnie usually calls for one.

Do you build or repair boat access roads and resort driveways? Regularly. We can regrade an existing access road, cut in a new one, or rebuild a section that washed out after a hard spring.
