Nevis sits on Highway 34, a Heartland Trail town on the edge of Lake Belle Taine and the Crow Wing chain. Trail traffic, cabin owners, and a handful of year-round residents keep this stretch of 34 busier than its size would suggest, and the sandy, lake-country soil here shapes almost every project we take on.

SITE WORK AROUND BELLE TAINE.

Cabin driveways make up a lot of our work near Nevis, especially where a lot slopes down toward Belle Taine or one of the smaller lakes nearby. We grade new driveways, regrade old ones that have lost their crown over the years, and set culverts where a drive has to cross low, wet ground. Septic system work is common here too. Sandy soil drains well but still needs the right sand under a mound system to meet code and hold up long term, and that is a job we handle from excavation through material delivery.

From our yard at 31923 US Highway 2 in Cass Lake, trucks headed to Nevis run out Highway 34. Getting a load out this way is routine for us, since Nevis sits inside the roughly 50-mile radius we run every week. Aggregate sells by the ton, soils by the yard, and a tandem load runs around 15 tons, the same as everywhere on our route.

Because the soil around Nevis drains so freely, septic sand and fill sand are two of our most requested materials out this way, whether for a new mound system or for building up a low, wet building site. Class 5 gravel (MnDOT Spec 3138) still handles driveway surfaces and parking areas, since a sandy subgrade needs a gravel surface that locks together on top of it. Lakeshore lots on Belle Taine and the Crow Wing chain also call for rip rap sized to MnDOT Spec 3601 classes, and we will walk you through the permit process with the DNR before any material gets placed.
