Where We Deliver · Blackduck

NORTH TO BLACKDUCK, LOAD BY LOAD.

Storlie Construction delivery area near Blackduck, MN

North of Bemidji on Highway 71, the country turns to timber and lake cabins around Blackduck and Blackduck Lake. It sits toward the northern edge of where we regularly deliver, and while we make the trip often, this is one town where a quick call ahead makes scheduling easier for everyone. Cabins here often sit back from the lake on wooded lots, and reaching them takes equipment that can handle a narrow, root-covered lane.

The Trip North On 71

Reaching Blackduck means leaving Highway 2 and running north on Highway 71 through Bemidji. It is a longer haul than most of our other stops, and because Blackduck sits near the outer edge of our roughly 50-mile delivery radius, we ask customers up here to call and confirm scheduling before counting on a specific delivery day. Once a route is set, though, we treat a Blackduck job the same as anything closer to the yard.

Logging Roads And Lake Cabins

Blackduck's mix of timberland and lake cabins shapes the site work we do here. That includes building and regrading driveways back into wooded lots, clearing land for a new cabin near Blackduck Lake, prepping ground for a septic system, and repairing logging or access roads that take a beating from heavy equipment. Grade work around a cabin site often has to account for tree roots and uneven ground that a straightforward in-town lot would not.

Material For Northern Ground

Class 5 gravel (MnDOT Spec 3138) rebuilds driveways and logging roads chewed up by equipment traffic, and we run tandem loads of roughly 15 tons to keep a rebuild moving. Washed rock manages drainage on wooded lots where runoff has nowhere obvious to go. Fill dirt levels a cabin building site, and black dirt or screened topsoil puts a yard back together once the machines leave. For shoreline work on Blackduck Lake, we stock rip rap (MnDOT Spec 3601) sized to hold against ice. Fieldstone and boulders, pulled from our own pit, also show up in Blackduck landscaping and retaining work, since glacial rock is common throughout this part of the county.

Blackduck Questions, Answered

Is Blackduck really within your delivery area? Yes, though it sits near the edge of it. Call ahead to confirm scheduling, since routes this far north sometimes need a bit more lead time than towns closer to the pit.

Do you handle shoreline rip rap permits for Blackduck Lake? We do not issue the permit ourselves, but DNR approval is commonly required for shoreline work. We will point you to the permit process and place the rock once you have it in hand.

Does winter or spring weather change how you schedule Blackduck deliveries? It can. Logging roads and wooded driveways hold snow and mud longer than open ground, and spring frost laws add another layer of timing to plan around. Call and we will work out a realistic window.
